History

On March 17, 1917, Delta Phi Epsilon was founded by five women at the New York University Law School.  After a couple years the sorority went national, then it was founded as an international sorority.  On December 5, 1922, the first international chapter was established at McGill University, Montreal, Canada.  Recently, Delta Phi Epsilon was known to have 35,000 members.  All sisters go by the motto, "Esse Quam Videri" which means "To be rather than to seem to be."  The founding sisters established Delta Phi Epsilon on a dedication, pride, and excellence basis.
 
The first chapter, ALPHA, was founded by 5 women:

            Ida Bienstock Landau
            Minna Goldsmith Mahler
            Eva Effron Robin
            Sylvia Steirman Cohn
 
The Five S's:
Self: Physical, emotional, and personal delvopment
Sisterhood: Organizational knowledge and skill
Service: Community and Societal awareness and involvement
Social: Communication, Leadership and Social delvopment
Scholarship: Academic, career, and lifestyle skills and planning

Delta Phi Epsilons Mission

To set the standard for sisterhood in an ever-changing world.  Delta Phi Epsilon develops a social consciousness and a commitment to think and act for the greater good.  We assure continuous developement and achievement for women by embracing our founding principles of Justice, Sisterhood, and Love.
